Po Chun Lau, Artist
Po Chun Lau is a Newfoundland based painter and sculptor. Po holds an Masters of Fine Arts from OCAD University. Her interest in nature and human connections is evident throughout her work on wood, canvas and sculptures. Po’s work has continued to evolve and grow, influenced greatly over the past several years by the unique landscape and culture of Newfoundland. From paintings of the forever changing skies and dissipated fences, to sculptures of the rugged shorelines and icebergs, a common thread of impermanence weaves through them. As part of her doctorate program at Memorial University, Po did art based research exploring place, memory, and identity. That inspired Po to form the Pouch Cove Public Art Committee (PCPAC) in 2020 with a mandate to create opportunities for artists to work in the public realm. The PCPAC has to date commissioned four distinctive public art projects, ranging from small sculptures to large-scale interactive installations.
